Planting The Seeds

Today was planting day.

First, I filled my pots up with seedling mix:

I made a half-inch furrow in each with the end of a pen:

Then I dropped a seed (some of which had already started to sprout slightly after soaking) into each furrow and sprinkled mix lightly on top:

I watered each pot thoroughly, and left them in a transparent plastic box by the window:

Initial Setup

Yesterday, I bought seven small seedling pots:

And some seedling mix, as recommended by the woman at the nursery:

Finally, before going to bed, I put the seeds to soak in some water.

Introduction

So, like many of us, I obtain great benefit from the well known healing and enlightening properties of the cannabis plant. Also like many of us, I find the expense and hassle of obtaining it via the black market to be quite disagreeable.

Earlier this year, I took charge of a house with a garden - including a nicely contained and concealable outdoor alcove, conveniently adjoining my bedroom:

A few months after moving in, I happened to obtain a quarter ounce bag of exceptionally nice buds which also contained seven apparently healthy seeds.

This gave me an idea.

I am not at all an accomplished or knowledgeable gardener. But it's a field I'm inclined to explore. I like plants; I like gardens. So I did some research.

Unfortunately, most of the practical guides I could find were focussed either on growing indoors under lights, or on cultivating large crops in the wild - and in both cases made the whole business seem hopelessly risky and complicated.

But I was not discouraged. I live in a reasonably temperate climate - and it's a weed, for chrissakes. How hard could this be?

One thing was clear, though: I'd have to wait until spring to plant.

Well, here we are. And I've created this blog to document my gardening adventure - partly for my own reference, partly that it may inspire or amuse others, and partly in the vague hope that any readership which does develop can serve as a source of advice, or at least counsel, on my journey.

I've got no idea what I'm doing.
